Overview & Reviews
Lexus gives the LS 430 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Along with mild exterior revisions, the LS gets a number of new standard features, including a six-speed automatic transmission (with a manual-shift gate), adaptive headlights that swivel during turning maneuvers, knee airbags for the driver and front passenger and a moonroof. New options include the Pre-Collision system, which uses radar to detect an avoidable collision, and prepares for impact by tightening up the seatbelts, switching to sport mode on air suspension-equipped vehicles and activating maximum braking pressure. Among the other highlights are SmartAccess, which allows the driver to start up the LS without inserting a key; 18-inch wheels as part of the Sport Package; and a rear backup camera, expanded voice recognition functionality and Bluetooth hands-free phone compatibility on vehicles with the navigation system. An upgraded Mark Levinson stereo now offers seating position-optimized sound, and satellite radio is a new dealer-installed option.
- Superb ride quality, impressive array of standard and optional luxury features, top-notch interior materials, Lexus reliability.
- Not as athletic as some competitors, adding options raises the price to un-Lexus-like levels.

Luxury at its best - 2004 Lexus LS 430
By Maishe02 - January 24 - 10:00 amOverall a very excellent auto. The finish is flawless. Performance leaves nothing to be desired. Has every luxury feature I could desire. Particularly like the moving directional vanes of the A/c and the satellite navigation without the necessity of CDs.

Initial Impressions with Used LS430 - 2004 Lexus LS 430
By new2lexus2 - August 15 - 9:43 amFinally decided to treat ourselves to some luxury and research led us to the Lexus LS...test driving lead us to the 2004 LS430 we recently purchased. At 92,500 miles, and timing belt service just done, we felt this was a bargain luxury vehicle. Initial driving impression has been WoW! Car does have the often reported passenger side-view mirror problem, but that is easily worked around. We opted for the base model with some extras as opposed to the luxury model (we did test drive one). Since our desire was for a vacation and special occasion road car (instead of our 2001 RX300), we wanted the larger trunk. Still plenty of amenities to make it a true pleasure to drive and ride thus far.

Perfect except for a few minor items - 2004 Lexus LS 430
By Scott Michael - June 26 - 10:00 ami wish that the voice control system for the NAV and climate would learn my commands a little bit better. I also wish that there was a options package level between the custom and luxury setting that would sacrifice some of the backseat improvement and still leave some of the performance features. But, these are pretty picky items in an almost perfect car. If yourre having a mid-life crisis...get hair plugs and a Ferrari...If you want a wonderful ride in a car that is very comfortable, fun to drive and reasonably prices, buy a LS $#)

Great but not Fantastic - 2004 Lexus LS 430
By carperson - May 25 - 2:00 amIve had the car for one week now and I have driven about 350 miles and have read through and figured out all the bells and whistles on the car. My previous car was a BMW 328i 2000 automatic 4 door sedan in titanium silver. I think this is a great car. It is extremely expensive however. Since I was buying an 04 in 03 I paid $3500 over sticker with an auto broker. However, I got a GREAT deal on the lease with a money factor of only .00164! I didnt want the smart key ($1K) option, but it seemed that all the cars with the Modern Luxury Package came with it. One problem with the smart key is that it interferes with remote start - nice for the winter.
